Who Are You?
Hey, it’s been a while since I posted on the blog so I thought it would be a bit of fun to tell you a little bit about me and ask you to post a comment and tell us about you!
I started with computers when I was around 15 years old (I’m 45 now). My first encounter was with an old teletype machine that had one of those old adventure programs on it. It went something like this… you hit ‘S’ to go south and it would type something like ‘You see the entrance to a cave…’. I can remember how marvelous I thought that technology was! Anyway, from that point on I was hooked. I go into all sorts of programming, repairing, diagnosing, building etc.
I’ll keep this part short … basically, computers were a hobby until 1995 when I started an ISP business and a network consulting business. The ISP business still runs from myspare room (dialup access and some local web hosting…I have 8 servers in there). In 2005 I decided to pull away from my consulting business and ‘work in my underwear’. Well..not exactly but you probably know what I mean. I moved my office back home and that’s where I’m writing this from.
Enough about computers. I’ve also played several musical instruments…violin and saxophone when I was at school and guitar for the past 20 years or so. I was in a few local bands when I was in my 20′s .. mainly playing 50′s rock and roll music. Nowadays I pick the guitar up every now and then .
I am a single parent with a 17 year old daughter who has lived with me for the past 7 years. I’ve always enjoyed being a parent and regret that I didn’t have more kids. My ex and I parted ways when my daughter was 1 year old and I’ve not had a partner since then.
Nowadays I look after WhirlwindTraffic, do heaps of programming and pretty much live online during the day and part of the evening. It’s not unusual for me to be up, like now, at 2.30am .. knowing that I have to be up at 8am to get my daughter motivated and off to school
.
So…tell us a little bit about you!

Hello,
I’m still trying to sort through all the emails that I’ve been getting ever since I started social networking. Does anyone have any tips? I want to find out which is good and which is not so I can focus on what needs to be focused on. I find it so confusing with all this email, I don’t have time after working all day to go through it all. So I think I want to focus on researching Whirlwindtraffic for the time being. Please feel free to advise me.
Thanks! Linda

Naomi,
I just noticed that you used to live in Alaska! Hot topic right now. Did you ever happen to meet Sarah Palin? I think she’s really a great woman to have in the Whitehouse. She doesn’t seem to let anyone step on her toes, that’s for sure.

Hi Donna,
As I was looking at your paintings, I thought how nice it would be to get a painting of Palin standing behind McCain. Seriously.. You know the saying.. behind every good man is a good woman.. One never knows.. right?

heh i actually remember those old teletypes. (heh i’m 39 btw )though i actually started on using the tsr80′s myself. i have been online pretty much for the last 15+ years. mostly gaming and some odd and end job stuff. nothing real serious till now, i am still looking for something that i can actually afford and can sink my teeth into and run with it. also has to be able to explain to a dummy like me that doesnt understand things like banners and splash pages how to set things up.

Hi and thanx for the invitation. I’m a civil servant full time, getting close to retirement, so I do this online stuff to have something to do when i retire.
I’ve been working with computers and internet since before there was even an internet. As a Federal employee, I helped the old Darpanet project by testing some protopes…the old Silent 700s. I started out in navy electronics in the early 70s, then went on to Army missile systems. Can’t tell ya anything else without having to shoot ya LOL.

Well, I am a 30 yr old mother to 8(ages 16yrs -6 mon, until June of this year I never used a computer before outside of work(fastfood and tax preperation). I now create Digital Scrapbook kits and am currently trying to get my site up and running in time for Christmas.
I manage a Jackson Hewitt every tax season(this is my 6th year with the company) and I play Bass in a band, Dirty Lil Secret. I do all this while changing diapers and wiping noses and last year I almost became a grandmother, unfortunately it was not meant to be.
I joined here and a few other sites to increase traffic to my blog ScrapWhat, as soon as my site is completely up I will be driving traffic there instead.
I am completely self-taught and although it has been frustrating, I am begining to really enjoy every aspect of programing I have learned so far. I hope to go back for a degree in Programming by next fall, it has fascinated it me so much. My goal is to create a digital scrapbook program that is completely user-friendly and has many functions like a graphics arts program/photo editing program.

This is my hobby other wise I would have gone nuts I love it specially when the owners of the TE are friendly guys. Thank You willing to keep learning.

Hi Lydia. I know what you’re going thru. I’ve been surfing for about 18 years and it hasn’t been easy, but I’ve had some fun. I’m retired at 69 and trying to supplement my income I’ve joined various clubs online and never seem to make any money, but the site owners do. The latest was DHSC. I had two great sponsors and they helped me all they could, but 6 months and $300 later, all I had to show for it was $71. Now I’m into PTCs, cause they’re free. I have a bunch of programs running, but haven’t been paid much, so far. I’ve found that Whirly is more effective than all the others I’ve tried and I use it a lot. About the only PTCs I trust are listed on my site. They’re all on one network and I think they will pay off and last a few years. It’s called the MyBuxNetwork. My site, in case they don’t list it on here is: http://www.dvj12000.com . I like feedback and if you check it out, please, go to the bottom of the site and send me a message. By the way, the get rich quick thing is a lie. Been there, done that and there ain’t no such animal, that is, if it’s legal. It takes a lot of time and patience to build a business that’s profitable. I wish you every success and have a Merry Christmas. Doug

Are there any Pool Players out there? I have a great cue stick for sale on my site. It’s a custom made cue, by Barry Moore and cheap, cause he made me another one and I don’t need two. The one I have now cost $500. The one I’m selling cost $250, but I’m selling for $150, cause it’s used. It shoots great and comes with an extra shaft. If you look at my site it’s listed there with full description: http://www.dvj12000.com . The pic of it is very slow to down load. Like I said, I like feedback. Hope to hear from you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Doug

Hey Gary. I’m dvj12000. Remember me. I’ve been on and off your Whirly site, more than once. It’s still the best. I’m a little puzzled, though. On the top ten with points, I was wondering how the points were figured. I’ve surfed about 15 to 1600 sites in the last two days and I don’t see my name on there. It was there yesterday. 6th place I think, but not today. Can you enlighten me on the point configuration? I would appreciate it. Thanks and I hope you have Happy Holidays. Doug
Doug on December 13, 2008
Hey Jean. Doug here. Been there and done that, too. My income is limited, too. I can’t work a program, unless it’s free. I’m 69 and trying to supplement my Social security check, which we all know, is never enough. I saw a great opportunity in PTCs, but found that there are so many scams online, it just ain’t funny. I’ve only started in them since May and made very little money, but I still have faith in four. They’re listed on my website. http://www.dvj12000.com
I like feedback, too. I’m open to suggestions on real money making sites and improvements to my own site. I hate hype and it turns me off when I start reading it and I hate the videos, trying to sell with high pressure. I know some people can sell refrigerators to Eskimos and I turn them off, as soon as They start talking. I’m not an Eskimo. I’m American by birth and Southern by the grace of God. I’m God-fearing and poor, but living life to the fullest. If people want to retain my interest, they must speak to me in an honest, forth-coming fashion. I’m a hard-sell. I hate scams, too, but don’t know where to report them. I know there are sites to do that and help get them off the web or fine them or something. If you or anyone know the links to the authorities on the web, I’d appreciate knowing. As I said, I’m open to suggestions and willing to help in any way I can, to honest people. Thanks for listening and Happy Holidays to all. Doug
Doug on December 13, 2008
Do not, I repeat, do not send me a bunch of hype, cause you’d be wasting the effort and your precious time. I just delete them and don’t bother to read them. I’m posting this to try and save me the trouble of unsubscribing from the sites, in case they buy my address from some site that lies about not selling, giving or soliciting addresses collected. I know that that’s the way some people make money on the web. I don’t believe in Downline Lists, either. Too much trouble. Happy Holidays. Doug

Hi Doug. The points are based on your surfing, the number of members you have referred and also their surfing. So, movements up and down the ladder can be fairly swift and the only way to guarantee that you will stay near the top is to surf regularly, refer new members, and encourage your referred members to surf.

Hi, I am a mom with 4 children. I have been on the internet since 2002 off and on. My first introduction to the internet, is when I started taking online classes. I am now in my Senior year, major is Business Administration. I have realized that I am a people person, and strongly believe in EEO Equal Employment Opportunity. I became a Certified Nurse Assistant when I had my daugter that is now 6 years, as well as my teenagers 17 and 18. Approaching my 4th child at the age of being 2 this year, is when I finally discovered in online marketing. I have been in searched of programs that will supplement my income for being a stay at home mother. I am hoping that I can start generating a great income so that I do not have to go back out to the work force and so that I can take care of my children as well as go on vacations. It has not been an easy task for me, so many programs out there that offers too much hype schemes, which makes one who have to be careful which programs one have to promote. The most wisest choice I had to make is stick to maybe 3 programs and promote to the fullest where I become successful to mastering and learning is a way to become financial free. I am loving the online thing cause I made so many friends in sharing resources. Networking with others has created a lifetime bond and I would not want to give that up. I love helping others reach their goals and developing a great team of enjoying the wealth that we all can achieve.
Sharing is caring,
Destiny

Hi Gary,
It was in 1995 – my first real computer – Pentium 2, Windows 95 – WoW!
Then many things happened at once. I got married; my son was born (1996) and I had 2 heart attacks 6 months apart. I had to deal with different existential things for a couple of years and then I slowly started to use the computer, learned AutoCAD and today I still make my main living with it.
I am thinking and trying to get into making more then just pocket change on the Net but it is a slow process. Still I think I’ll stick to it and see where that road takes me to.
Oh, yes, I am still married, no fireworks but one great 12 year old kid and a WWW in front of me…
Cheers!

Boy O boyo, you sound so much like me! My first computer wan a commodore 64 around 1988, if my memory still works.
I fell in love instantly with AmericaOnLine in their very early years. Since then, I have left because of it’s changes which are all so commercially targeted. So much so, I couldn’t stand it anymore. I prefer the private ISP via cable now. Isn’t it truly amazing how fast this technology has changed our lives. Back in those good old days, only a few of us were the adverturous ones who love to explore and discover. It still is the same way for me today. We must have been the first Pioneers in our earlier lives.
Always finding something new. Like this forum for example! It’s so nice and friendly here. I think I will stay around for a while and get to know as many people as I can. Relationships are very important to me, especially all my friends online, because I am disabled and this is where I always stay, right here in my chair and on my pc on the internet. I live at home with my hubby of 33 years and my little dog named “Honey”

I was born in Washington D.C. and raised up in North Carolina on a farm. Been a musician since age 13. I still have that fire in my heart to continue playing and I do read and write music. I have always wanted a clothing store and decided in August 2000 that I would try my dream online and have been online since with the clothing store and everything else I can get into online.
